What do school bonds and levies fund?

  • Essential staff and educational programs

Counselors, social workers, and nearly all school nurses are funded directly by ballot measures. Additionally, Special Education services and Highly Gifted Programs are supported through these measures.

  • Technology and high-quality instruction

Nearly all facilities maintenance and technology expenses are funded through ballot measures. They maintain our 1:1 student-to-device ratio while providing advanced classes and technology training for classroom instruction.

  • New construction and building modernization

Ballot measures support school buildings in Sammamish, Kirkland, Redmond, and unincorporated King County. Adding permanent classrooms for students at all grade levels to address current needs and prepare for future growth.

Supporting the LWSD Building Excellence Plan

Lake Washington School District has published a Building Excellence Plan covering construction needs through 2034.

Phase 1 began in 2022 with the passage of a construction levy to address critical short-term needs. You can already see the great impact on our community with upgrades underway at Finn Hill Middle School, Kirkland Middle School, and Redmond Middle School - all adding eight more classrooms starting in the fall of 2024.

Phase 2 timing has not been confirmed but will focus on aging facilities – with a goal of rebuilding/enlarging four schools that have not received upgrades or rebuilds in over 25 years: Alcott Elementary, Smith Elementary, Kamiakin Middle School and Evergreen Middle School. As well as Fieldhouse/pool refurbishment at Juanita High School.
